LOL I was too tired to close it last night so... everyone got an extra.... 14 hours. XD
But yes, the contest is officially over peeps. Thanks to all for entering, I was really surprised by the turn out. :3 Lots of interesting designs to choose from.
Choosing will take time however and, what with homework and midterms and such, I probably won't get around to it until... hopefully tonight or tomorrow.
I'm trying to get it done quickly though so prizes can be drawn over the thanksgiving weekend.
Paige, my ever so loveable anthro brown/spotted hyena, needs a significant other. Specifically, a girlfriend. She is a lesbian, don't ya know. ;3
Entries will NOT be judged based on any of the following --
I don't care how many wrinkles you put in the clothes or how many hairs you depict in the drawings. They do not have to be shaded or drawn particularly realistically (though accuracy is, as always, appreciated). This is not an "art" contest, this is a "character" contest. Characters are not made of the intricate details in the artwork they are depicted in.
This is a character for Paige. Paige is not me, she is her own entity with her own personality, her own preferences, her own likes and dislikes. So if you design a dog character, understand that you are designing a character of a species that Paige does not like. Though they may be one of my favorite animals, they aren't hers and you will be entering the contest at a bit of a disadvantage. So be sure to read Paige's biography and design someone for HER, not for me. (not that I am saying that anyone who enters with a dog character will automatically lose. It's more like those characters will start out with negative brownie points, which can be overcome by adding things that Paige ultimately likes to the character)
Entries WILL be judged based on combinations and variations of the following --
Though the details in the artwork are not so important, the details and overall aesthetic appeal of the design are. This goes without saying but you should design a character that... doesn't necessarily look "hot/good/sexy" as a person, but as an artistic design should be cohesive and harmonious. So if you sit there and just pick random colors that don't match, have no relevance and only make the design look jumbled and crazy... good luck in this contest (unless that is how the character is: disorganized and weird). The physical appearance of the character should match their personality, with nice cohesive colors, interesting clothing choices, and sensible choices regarding species and style.
Meaning your character's personality should make sense, be understandable and logical, and should ultimately relate (if not perfectly match) their personality and up-bringing. So if you choose to design a character who is a delicate herbivore (like a deer), it is highly unlikely they would be a violent, aggressive, slob of a character. The two don't match or make much sense. Similarly, if your character is physically short (which I noticed a lot of you are doing so far: making characters close to Paige's height as though no anthros in the world are average height or as though Paige will only love someone her size), you shouldn't claim that they do things physically impossible for someone of that stature (like be a professional basketball player or driving super large vehicles). That sort of senselessness will dock you some brownie points. But do not forget to include it either. Though biographies are not required, it IS important to include a personality somehow (through an interesting pose, backdrop, or other aspects of an illustration, for example). I want a CHARACTER out of this contest, not a flat informationless design. If a design is all I needed from this, I'd visit an adoption club. So be sure to submit a CHARACTER and not just a drawing with some labels on it.
I understand that very few people are perfect in the art of creating characters, so if I can at least understand the basic idea of your character, you will have a very good standing in my contest. The concept of the character should be basic, but well thought out, sensible, logical... thoughtful. Doing things "randomly" doesn't make your character better. In fact, that only makes it worse, often confusing and contradicting. So keeping the basic idea as consistent and cohesive as possible will ultimately help you more than adding random details that make no sense. I care more about your character's general personality than I care about their favorite food or their favorite childhood memory. Focus more on the overall concept (is this character a good person or a bad person? is this character outgoing or reserved? confident or shy? intelligent or dim-witted? violent or peaceful? etc) and try to make it as unique and generally imperfect as possible. Mary Sues are a major turn off. Not just in my opinion, but in Paige's. She doesn't like to be beaten, especially not in /everything/. She has too much pride for that. Which brings me to my next point.
Though I thought this would go without saying, the major point of this whole thing is to design a girlfriend for Paige. I gave away all the information I could about Paige as a character so that you guys could create someone that would "fit" her and her desires, likes, morals, and such. Though much of this may be subjective, that is the ultimate deciding factor. Whichever character gets along best with Paige's personality and life style will be the one that wins this contest. Which brings me to the point that simply "copying" Paige will count against you quite strongly. You guys should know that, in relationships, opposite attract. Meaning similar poles repel each other. Designing a character that is too much like Paige will only create conflict, not any sort of attraction. Two characters that are good at fighting, for example, will spend all of their time trying to beat each other. Perhaps not in the interest in seriously hurting each other, but remember that Paige is a confident, competitive individual who doesn't like to appear weak or defenseless. She wouldn't want to spend vast amounts of time with someone who would be able to beat her in a fist fight, as that would make her appear weak and defenseless. Now, like the canine thing, submitting a fighting character will not automatically make you lose the contest. But again, it is something that should be strongly strongly STRONGLY kept in consideration. My ultimate point: don't forget that you are designing someone FOR someone else.

Full Name: Paige *muttermutters* Harrison (sometimes claims her last name is Humburg, likes to screw with people like that)
Gender: Female
Age: 19-ish (looks notably older)
DOB: November 12th
Astro.Sign: Scorpio
Species: 75% Brown hyena, 25% Spotted hyena (approximately)
Occupation: None/Poor/Homeless. Occasionally steals cars and sells them to drug traffickers for money. Commonly steals away inside friend's homes to use their amenities (ie- shower, food, television, internet, shelter, etc)
Pets: Batman- a non-anthro totally black panther (no spots). Plus a few alley cats and rats that she frequently sleeps nearby.
Height: 5ft 0in (152.4 cm)
Weight: 94 lbs (42.7 kg)
Body Type: Small probably delicate frame, but hides it under an athletic layer of muscular fitness
Physical Notes:
- Should be about 6 heads tall when drawn
- Digitigrade (animal like) legs always, though they are frequently hidden by clothing
- Back/Shoulder scar has been changed slightly (this will be updated when an image is available)
- Triangular nick is located on the OUTSIDE edge of her left (our right) ear only (yeah, her ref has it in the wrong spot)
- Note the snaggle teeth
- Hair is medium length, reaches about mid-bottom of her shoulder blades, generally spiky and unkempt
- Ears are fairly large, very tall and pointed almost like a german shepherd's ear, but they are much thinner and rather broad at the center
- Though she is part Spotted hyena, she barely resembles one
- Rather thin almost wolf-ish muzzle (slightly thicker than a wolf muzzle but tapers quite a bit like one), generally small nose
- Eyes are wide and very narrow, often featuring wrinkles/bags or shadows underneath them, very small iris and even smaller pupil
- Eyes are naturally red but, in reality, are fogged by cataracts, she wears contacts or sunglasses to hide this but still has generally poor eyesight
- Prefers warmer colors (cool colors appear very dark, often black, due to cataracts)
- Style of dress is very "urban", including usually loose, very casual clothing, often without sleeves, likes graphic or grunge style things (example: [link] )
- Almost ALWAYS has something on her head, usually this thing is a baseball cap of some sort (most commonly it's a black and white New York Yankees cap) but other things (hoods, bandannas, headbands, etc) are also possible
Personal Notes:
- Skeptical, sarcastic, witty, "street" smart, practical
- Violent, confrontational, but not usually in a particularly angry way, is not really what I would call "hot-headed" (though she has her pet peeves), mostly uses violence as a way to either solve problems or get what she wants
- Generally very laid-back, lazy, unmotivated, prefers leisure over activity
- Negative, pessimistic, but supportive of other's ambitions
- Ruthless in a fight, can be rather rude in conversation
- Very dry sense of humor
- Introverted, reserved, but can be coaxed into action, can be flirtatious when approached
- Likes to dance but tends to hide it (usually dances by herself when no one else is around, and is actually incredibly good at it), very secretive in regards to her deepest motivations and desires
- Can be a little narcissistic (has a reputation to maintain), slightly materialistic
Likes:
- sleeping
- aimlessly wandering
- physical activity (but tends to bore of it easily)
- competitions and challenges, loves to challenge herself
- puzzles
- breaking into the homes of friends to use their amenities (usually just their shower and some of their food)
- being a douche bag, or being thought of as a douche bag or jerk
Dislikes:
- lots of strenuous labor (but will do it if she really must)
- stupid senseless people (though they amuse her at the same time)
- leadership (does not like being the "go to" person, or having too much control, it's too much work)
- stress
- being the center of attention
- revealing information about herself (tends to be a little cautious in that sense)
- being considered weak or wimpy
- dogs (is very commonly mistaken for one, this annoys her)
- her conscience (has one but tries to ignore it)
